Pasteur Institute of Iran Proposed Partnership with Africa at Medical Diplomacy Forum
On December 8th, 2025, Iran University of Medical Sciences in Tehran hosted a forum for African ambassadors, to strengthen bilateral cooperation in science, education, and healthcare. Senior Iranian academics and several African diplomats participated in this meeting. Discussions focused on leveraging technology to overcome distance, with Iran showcasing its medical expertise through long-term projects in Africa. Key proposals included expanding health tourism in specialized fields such as organ transplantation and oncology, sharing expertise in infectious disease management, and enhancing training programs. During the meeting, the Pasteur Institute of Iran highlighted its century-long leadership in vaccine development and infectious disease control as a WHO partner and member of the Pasteur Network, proposing specialized training courses in pandemic preparedness, virology and infectious diseases for African professionals, especially in collaboration with COMSTECH. In response, African ambassadors emphasized the need for structured academic exchanges, joint research initiatives, and streamlined bureaucratic processes to enable practical and deepened partnerships.
