Technology Management

In response to global developments and the growing emphasis on technology alongside research and education within organizations, the Pasteur Institute of Iran recognized its historical role as a technological entity and the necessity to align with the international network of Pasteur Institutes. Consequently, the establishment of a specialized domain for technological topics was prioritized in late 2013. In 2014, the Technology Management Office was created as a division under the Directorate of Research, Technology, and Education. Following the appointment of the initial members of the "Technology Council", the council focused on preparing foundational documents, including regulations and executive instructions, guidelines for calls, evaluation, and oversight of technological projects, as well as forms related to proposals, reviews, progress reports, final project reports and contracts. The subdivisions of Technology Management Office are the following:

A- Commercialization and Industry Relations

There has recently been a notable increase in research activities at universities and research centers across the country. It is important to recognize that these activities cannot be deemed a crucial factor in the nation's economic development unless they effectively address community needs through the creation of intellectual assets and the added value generated from their sale and commercialization. Therefore, it is essential to implement various measures that facilitate the commercialization of research findings, protect and leverage intellectual property, and promote technological advancement.

In response to this need, the Pasteur Institute of Iran has established a Department of Commercialization within its Technology Management framework, in alignment with the country's current policies and the principles of a resilient economy.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing workflows, worksheets, and operational guidelines.
  • Establishing connections with investors to facilitate the commercialization of technological innovations.
  • Signing Memoranda of Understanding with marketing institutions.
  • Assisting researchers in the realization of their commercialization strategies.

B- Technology Development

To effectively align the scientific endeavors of the Pasteur Institute of Iran with the actual needs of the country and to facilitate the commercialization of research findings, it has become increasingly apparent that establishing an Intellectual Property Office is essential. This office will play a crucial role in coordinating research within the health technology sector between the Pasteur Institute of Iran and industry, thereby supporting technological development objectives. The primary goal of this initiative is to ensure the registration and protection of the Institute's valuable achievements on both national and international levels, ultimately fostering an environment conducive to the granting of domestic and international licenses based on these results. Enhancing the competitive capacity of the Pasteur Institute of Iran in the global arena necessitates a dual focus on fostering innovation and creativity as well as the professional management of intellectual property, thus steering it toward generating economic benefits. In accordance with these policies, the Intellectual Property Office of the Pasteur Institute of Iran was established in 2007 under the Institute's research division. Since 2015, it has operated as part of the Technology Development Office, focusing on identifying and safeguarding the Institute's intellectual assets for presentation to the health technology market.

Responsibilities:

  • Management and oversight of the Institute's intellectual property.
  • Training and guidance for researchers regarding technological assets.
  • Protection of the Institute's intellectual property at both national and international levels.
  • Facilitation of technology transfer and commercialization.
