Virtual Meeting Strengthens Ties Between Iran and Uzbekistan in Biotechnology
On January 29, 2025, a virtual meeting took place between the directors of the Pasteur Institute of Iran and the Tashkent Research Institute of Vaccines and Serums (in Uzbekistan). The meeting aimed to foster collaboration and technical assistance in the field of biotechnology and training for young scientists. Dr. Abdurahman Akbaraliyevich Ashurov, the director of the Tashkent Research Institute of Vaccines and Serums, articulated his institute's eagerness to receive technical support to enhance its product development and training programs. He emphasized the importance of nurturing the next generation of scientists to advance the institute's mission.
In response, Dr. Rahim Sorouri, director of the Pasteur Institute of Iran, welcomed Dr. Ashoruv’s initiative for cooperation. He highlighted the potential for collaboration on scientific issues of mutual interest between the two esteemed historic institutions. Moreover, Dr. Sorouri extended an invitation for Dr. Ashoruv to visit the Pasteur Institute of Iran during his upcoming trip to the Islamic Republic of Iran in the spring, underscoring the commitment to strengthen bilateral relations in scientific research.
The Tashkent Research Institute of Vaccines and Serums has been a pivotal center for vaccine and serum production since its establishment over a century ago. The institute has played a crucial role in eradicating smallpox in Uzbekistan, and since its rebranding in 1950, it has developed over 120 products. With around 500 scientific publications to its credit, the institute has made significant contributions to therapeutic advancements. Currently, the institute is focused on enhancing its capabilities in biotechnology, establishing 13 specialized laboratories, and fostering collaborations with international research centers.
