The Pneumococcal Vaccine Production Project between the Pasteur Institute of Iran and the Finlay Institute of Cuba was followed up during the Director General Visit to Havana
Dr. Ehsan Mostafavi, Director General of the Pasteur Institute of Iran along with a high-ranking delegation from the Iranian Ministry of Health advanced bilateral collaborations with Cuba in biotechnology and vaccine production through a series of intensive meetings and site visits. During the engagements, Cuban health officials presented a comprehensive overview of the nation’s healthcare services and emphasized the deeply integrated relationship between public health and biotechnology sectors. Central to the discussions was the follow-up on prior agreements, particularly the transfer of pneumococcal vaccine technology from the Finlay Vaccine Institute to the Pasteur Institute of Iran, as well as the exploration of additional vaccine production opportunities within Cuba. Additionally, an extensive meeting was held with Cuba’s Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB), where both parties reviewed past achievements—including the successful transfer of Hepatitis-B vaccine technology—and explored new avenues for cooperation. The CIGB reaffirmed its commitment to expanding collaboration and agreed to develop a detailed proposal for joint work on pentavalent and other vaccines. The session concluded with a mutual agreement to strengthen the strategic partnership in vaccine development and biomedical innovation.
