Scientific Review Session on the Global Status of Chikungunya was held at the Pasteur Institute of Iran

Iranian health experts gathered for a critical scientific review session, entitled "The Global Status of Chikungunya: Challenges and Threats", held at the Pasteur Institute of Iran on September 9th, 2025. The event, a collaboration between the Institute’s Research Center for Emerging and Re-emerging Diseases and the Ministry of Health’s Center for Communicable Disease Management, focused on the growing public health risk posed by the mosquito-borne virus. This session featured in-depth lectures covering the infection process of arboviral diseases, the genomic structure and genetic diversity of the Chikungunya virus, and the current landscape of vaccine development.

A key emphasis was placed on the importance of Iran's scientific capacity for monitoring, diagnosis, and rapid response to a potential outbreak. In a specialized panel, experts from both organizations outlined comprehensive control strategies. They stressed that beyond scientific measures, effective public health education and awareness campaigns are crucial for community-level monitoring and prevention. The session concluded with a Q&A, engaging both in-person and virtual attendees, highlighting the national effort to prepare for and combat emerging infectious diseases.
