On August 10, 2025, the Pasteur Institute of Iran held a high-level conference on "World Dengue Day", bringing together national and international health experts to discuss strategies for combating the vector-borne disease. Under the theme “Awareness, Action, Dengue Control,” the event, organized by the Arboviruses and Viral Hemorrhagic Fevers Department (National Reference Laboratory) of the Pasteur Institute of Iran, brought together health officials, specialists, and infectious disease researchers from across the country through both in-person and virtual participation. Keynote speeches were presented by Dr. Raman Velayudhan (WHO HQ/NTD; via videolink), Dr. Mohammad Mehdi Gouya (former head of Iran’s CDC), and Dr. Ehsan Mostafavi (Director General of the institute) who addressed global dengue challenges, Iran’s epidemiological status, and prevention measures. During the conference, Dr. Ghasem Zamani, the Vector-Borne Diseases Officer at the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office (EMRO), provided an in-depth analysis of the current dengue situation across the region. His presentation reinforced the urgency of unified strategies to curb dengue's spread in the region. Technical sessions covered Dengue Virology, Diagnostic Testing, Vaccine Development, and Aedes mosquito control methodologies, while public health officials emphasized community engagement and awareness campaigns. The conference concluded with a call for stronger national and regional coordination to mitigate the growing threat of dengue fever.
