Pasteur Institute of Iran Hosted World Science Day for Peace and Development Conference

A specialized one-day conference commemorating World Science Day for Peace and Development was held on Sunday, December 21, 2025. The event took place at the Hakim Jorjani Conference Hall within the Production and Research Complex of the Pasteur Institute of Iran and was organized in collaboration with the Complex's Research and Development (R&D) unit. The scientific gathering aimed to elucidate the fundamental role of science in advancing global peace and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It brought together researchers, specialists, and experts from diverse fields within the biological, medical, and health sciences. The conference was also held with the participation of two national scientific and cultural institutions: the Razi Vaccine and Serum Research Institute and the Tehran Peace Museum.

In his opening address, Dr. Ehsan Mostafavi, the Director General of the Pasteur Institute of Iran, honored the international day and emphasized the scientific community's critical mission to bridge perspectives and reduce global divides. Highlighting pervasive challenges such as biological threats, pandemics, food insecurity, and climate change, he stressed the urgent necessity of turning knowledge into concrete action. Dr. Mostafavi stated that research achievements only truly serve humanity and sustainable peace when translated into operational solutions, smart policies, and effective science diplomacy. He further underscored that strengthening international scientific dialogue and knowledge exchange is a crucial step on this path. Throughout the day, speakers and guests from the participating institutions presented their views in a series of specialized lectures. Key discussion topics included "Ethics in Science and the Social Responsibility of Scientists," "The Role of Science Diplomacy and International Research Collaborations in Reducing Tensions," "Historical and Contemporary Experiences in Containing Biological Threats and Their Role in Collective Security," and "Science, Education, and Awareness-Building as Foundations for a Culture of Peace."

The conference is regarded as an effective and symbolic step toward realizing the day's motto, "Global Science for Global Peace." It demonstrates the Pasteur Institute of Iran's commitment to playing a leading role in scientific and humanitarian movements at both national and international levels. Building on its historic legacy in knowledge production, vaccines, and essential biological products, the institute continues to strive for an inseparable link between scientific progress and the advancement of global health.
