National Conference Forges Consensus on Rabies Elimination Strategy

A national conference for World Rabies Day was held on September 28, 2025, at the Pasteur Institute of Iran, organized in collaboration with several key national bodies, as well as the municipal and rural administrations. The conference focused on the crucial role of national institutes in controlling and combating rabies, the historical progress in the fight against the disease, and the goal of eliminating human rabies transmitted by dogs by 2030. Discussions emphasized the importance of a cross-sectoral "One Health" approach, the role of the private veterinary sector, and addressed national challenges in rabies control, integrated bite case management, and the connection between rabies and waste management. A subsequent session covered significant advancements in the production of oral rabies vaccines and methods for sampling and handling suspected rabies cases. The event concluded with a consensus on a resolution underscoring the necessity of controlling and fighting rabies, and honored two esteemed professors for their invaluable scientific contributions to the field.
