Experts Convened at National Conference on Avian Influenza and Future Pandemic Readiness at the Pasteur Institute of Iran

On September 30, 2025, the Center for Research on Emerging and Re-emerging Diseases of the Pasteur Institute of Iran held a one-day national conference titled "Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza: A Real Threat and Lessons for Pandemic Preparedness" at its Tehran Campus. This national conference was held in collaboration with the Center for Communicable Disease Management of the Ministry of Health, Treatment, and Medical Education, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, the Veterinary Organization of Iran, the Department of Environment, Razi Vaccine and Serum Research Institute, the Iranian Veterinary Medical Association, and Tehran University. The lectures during this event revolved around four central themes: the global threat and future outlook of the disease, its epidemiological status, future needs, and the weaknesses and challenges in combating and controlling it. Experts and researchers examined the epidemiological situation, the necessity for preparedness, the importance of a "One Health" approach, and the evolutionary cycles of the virus. At the end of this national conference, Dr. Saber Esmaeili, Head of the Center for Research on Emerging and Re-emerging Diseases of the Pasteur Institute of Iran, emphasized the necessity of coordinated and joint actions and synergy between the Ministry of Health, the Veterinary Organization of Iran, the Department of Environment, and medical and veterinary scientific and research centers to combat future pandemics. Also, on the sidelines of this conference, veterans in the field of health and influenza, were honored and appreciated by Dr. Ehsan Mostafavi, the Director General of the Pasteur Institute of Iran for their valuable and lasting services.
