Stanford University has recently released an update of the list of the top 2% most widely cited scientists in various disciplines. This ranking considered the most reputable worldwide, is based on the bibliometric information contained in the Scopus database.

The basis of this list is to provide a set of standardized citation metrics to evaluate the citation impact of scientists in different disciplines and fields worldwide. The composite citation index is a publicly available database of top-cited scientists that provides standardized information on citations, h-index, co-authorship adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions and a composite indicator (c-score). In this list, scientists are classified into 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-fields. Field- and subfield-specific percentiles are also provided for all scientists with at least 5 papers. The selection is based on the top scientists by c-score or a percentile rank of 2% or above in the sub-field. The c-score focuses on impact (citations) rather than productivity (number of publications) and it also incorporates information on co-authorship and author positions.

According to the database, which covers the papers published from 1996 to 2022, 5 current academic staff of Pasteur Institute of Iran, including Dr Azam Bolhassani, and Dr Parvaneh Mehrbod, members of the research group on virology, Dr Mohammad Ali Shokrgozar, and Dr Mehdi Farrokhi, researchers in the Biotechnology research group, and Dr Ehsan Mostafavi, a member of the research group on Epidemiology and Clinical trial studies, are among the top 2% scientists.
