In commemoration of World Mosquito Day, the Second National Conference on "Mosquitoes and Vector-Borne Diseases in Iran" was successfully convened, honoring the late Professor Ezzatollah Javadian on August 19^th, 2026. Jointly organized by the Pasteur Institute of Iran and the School of Public Health at Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), the event brought together leading health specialists, researchers, and policymakers to review the latest scientific findings and address emerging challenges in global health.

The conference underscored the critical need to strengthen national infrastructure for controlling vector-borne diseases. Experts highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, integrating fields such as medical entomology, epidemiology, and geographic information systems to enhance disease surveillance and outbreak prediction. Key scientific sessions covered diverse topics, including the biology and ecology ofCulicidaemosquitoes, updated malaria control guidelines, arbovirus status, immunology of leishmaniases, and innovative research on cytoplasmic incompatibility and nematode-mosquito interactions.

A major achievement of the event was the recognition of excellence in the field. Four outstanding researchers were honored for their contributions in the categories of best paper, impactful research project, outstanding thesis, and young researcher. Additionally, four senior pioneers were celebrated for their lifelong dedication to medical entomology and vector control in Iran.

Participants emphasized the importance of sustaining this annual gathering to foster knowledge exchange, build an effective national network of specialists, and promote applied research. The conference concluded with a strong commitment to continued collaboration among academic, research, and health institutions, ensuring that Iran remains proactive in addressing both endemic and re-emerging mosquito-borne diseases through science-driven strategies and capacity-building initiatives.
