The Director-General of the Pasteur Institute of Iran met with Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator-General of COMSTECH, in Tehran

Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, a distinguished scientist in organic chemistry within the Muslim world and recipient of the prestigious Mustafa Award in 2021, engaged in discussions with Dr. Ehsan Mostafavi, Director-General of the Pasteur Institute of Iran, on May 20, 2025.

In 2023, a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) and the Pasteur Institute of Iran. This agreement commits both parties to collaborate on developing and implementing joint training programs and strengthening health systems, particularly in Muslim countries. Following this MoU, the inaugural joint training course, titled "Assessment and Management of Infectious Disease Outbreaks," was held in December 2023 in Karachi and Islamabad, Pakistan, featuring specialists from the Pasteur Institute of Iran.

Dr. Choudhary, who is the Coordinator-General of COMSTECH, accompanied a delegation from his organization during the Second Summit of Islamic Higher Education Ministers, hosted by Iran’s Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology. In his meeting with Dr. Mostafavi, he emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation and highlighted the crucial role of educational and practical programs. He specifically underlined initiatives that could be led by the Pasteur Institute of Iran, focusing on diagnostics and preparedness for infectious diseases and pandemics, for the benefit of Islamic countries. In response, Dr. Mostafavi expressed the Institute’s readiness to expand joint initiatives and described collaboration with COMSTECH as a catalyst for significant improvements in the health systems of Islamic nations.
