The Pasteur Institute of Iran achieved the top grade in the World Health Organization's evaluation program for detecting monkeypox

The program aimed to assess the ability of reference laboratories to diagnose monkeypox, with unknown samples being examined for infection with the virus. The Laboratory of Rapid Response Team for Infectious Diseases at Pasteur Institute was responsible for setting up and monitoring 14 subnational laboratories performing screening tests for Orthopox family viruses. By evaluating and confirming the laboratory's capabilities in diagnosing monkeypox cases, the World Health Organization has given assurance of its quality and performance. The team obtained an excellent grade of 100% accuracy in the 2023 evaluation program, demonstrating its quality and credibility on a global level.

The Rapid Response Team for Infectious Diseases was launched in 2015 to quickly detect the outbreaks of infectious diseases and has actively participated in identifying and responding to several outbreaks, including COVID-19 and monkeypox. The team has also provided preparation for the implementation of the syndromic surveillance system for infectious diseases in Iran and is currently able to investigate multiple infectious diseases and diagnose emerging and re-emerging diseases.
