The Department of Epidemiology was established in 1948 and is one of the oldest departments of Pasteur Institute of Iran. This department has had close collaboration with World Health Organization as an International Center of plague and has conducted extensive research on epidemiology of various infectious diseases such as plague, tularemia, recurrent fevers, rabies and smallpox in Iran. It also supervises Akinlou, a research site of Pasteur Institute of Iran in the west of the country. Activities of the Department of Epidemiology are divided into educational, research, services and advisory fields:
Educational Activities
- Workshops applicable to research methods.
- Teaching of relevant courses to students of Pasteur Institute of Iran and other academic centers.
- Aid and advice in MA and PhD theses.
- Training students of other universities and collaborating in research projects.
- Weekly journal clubs about related topics in epidemiology.
Research Activities
- Collaboration in institutional, national and regional research projects.
- Scientific collaboration in formulation, implementation and analysis of research projects of other colleagues within Paster and other universities internally.
- Collaboration with other scientific and research centers associated with the epidemiology nationally and internationally for development of activities and joint projects especially in the Center for Disease Control.
- Publication of research results in the form of books, articles, reports and abstracts of congresses.
Service and advisory activities
- Consultation with the Center for Disease Control for disease management.
- Collaboration with research-related committees in the Pasteur Institute and Ministry of Health.
- Collaboration with editorial board of different journals.
- Judgment of scientific journals nationally and internationally.
- Performance of assigned missions.
