Joint Scientific Meeting on Using Artificial Intelligence to Combat Microbial Resistance
A joint scientific meeting was held between the Center for Emerging and Re-emerging Diseases Research at the Pasteur Institute of Iran and the Center for Managing Communicable Diseases of the Ministry of Health on April 20th, 2025, focusing on "The Application of Artificial Intelligence in Combating Antibiotic Resistance." Attended by key officials, faculty members, staff, and students, the event began with remarks emphasizing the importance of regular collaborative sessions to explore emerging infectious diseases and resistance issues. During the event, AI fundamentals, its clinical applications in infection diagnosis, resistance monitoring, drug discovery, and its role in managing patient records and improving clinical decision-making were discussed. A panel then addressed topics such as the development of Iran’s national AI network, resource allocation, AI history and infrastructure, strategies to enhance Iran’s role in the global AI landscape, challenges of hospital infections like sepsis, the importance of early and accurate diagnosis through AI, potential errors of AI tools, and the necessity of ongoing data updates to ensure reliable outcomes. The session concluded with remarks on the need to rethink research priorities and organizational structures to integrate AI effectively for Iran’s scientific and healthcare advancements.
